Dave's Disordered Gut

I think we've all been there a time or two. We eat something that just doesn't settle well. We start feeling the 'ick' in our gut. And then we have that feeling that we better get to the toilet soon.

You know what happens next.

But what if what happens next continues for days? Weeks? Months? Years?

That's what happened to Dave.

Dave is a hard-working man with a lovely wife and a handful of kiddos. He lives his life like many Americans who go off to a stressful job during the week and come home to family at night.

He's had his fair share of illnesses and injuries over the years but isn't following the lead of most Americans by being on an average of four pharmaceutical drugs. Nope, Dave's not on a single one.

Way to go Dave!!

But in the last 7 years, Dave's gut has become more and more disordered. He's having days and days of stomach pain, lots of urging to poop (yes, we talk about poop here), and then resulting constipation which leads to hemorroids. These episodes can last up to a week at a time followed by a week of feeling pretty normal and pain free.

He can't seem to pinpoint these episodes to any foods that he's eating, but he does think stress might play a part. It seems that his stomach pain is worse by the end of his work day.

His appetite and family activities are severely affected by this disordered gut. And he also notices that he's a bit more down and depressed when these episodes occur. This is not like him. He's generaly a very happy man.

Dave is so fed up that he's about ready to give in to the colonoscopy and pharmaceuticals suggested by his doctor. But lucky for him, his wife has been learning about homeopathy.

Because this case is a bit more than she can handle at this point in her homeopathic education, she sets him up to have a consult with me.

One thing that stuck out in the consult was that just prior to the start of Dave's gut issues, he had been ill. And what did he take during that illness? Antibiotics.

I know (and hopefully you do to) that antibiotics kill bacteria in the gut...all bacteria...good and bad. And when you kill bacteria in the gut, this makes the gut permeable (what you might know as leaky gut). It also makes other microorganisms flourish which in turn causes the gut flora to become imbalanced.

So Dave's body has been sending him signals this whole time letting him know that his gut has been affected by the drugs he took for that illness. But he didn't know it would affect him like this.

It's ok, Dave. Homeopathy to the rescue!

We have a wonderful medicine called Nux vomica. This medicine is such a powerhouse for stomachaches, constipation, hemorrhoids, and after effects from drugs. And because he's such a hard-working man, it just made even more sense that this remedy would be the right choice for him.

I suggested Dave use this medicine in a 200c potency morning and night every day until our follow-up.

In just two months, Dave's gut improved dramatically. While the stomach pain and urging was still happening, these episodes were only occuring once a month and lasting for just a day. And no more constipation!

Great job, Dave!

This is exactly what we like to see in homeopathy. We don't try to force the body to stop a process in a short amount of time like pharmaceutical drugs. We provide a gentle stimulus for the body to respond to in it's own timing. Given enough time and patience, the body will heal completely and homeopathics will no longer be needed.

Isn't that all we can hope for in a medicine?

If you know someone who is dealing with a disordered gut like Dave, please pass this article on to them. While Nux vomica may or may not be their answer, I know homeopathy has an answer for them. You just may be the one who is instrumental in them finding healing.
